Applicant Information Regarding Our Department


Thank you for your interest with our department.  As the Chief of Police for our department, I wanted to share some information about our department and about employee benefits.


We cover the municipalities of Heidelberg, Manheim, and North Codorus, Townships and Spring Grove Borough.  We currently employ 14 fulltime officers, and provide service to 18,000 residents in a 70 square mile area. Two representatives from each municipality represent our Police Board.  Our budget for 2014 is $2 million dollars.  Our 9,500 sq. foot police facility was completed in August of 2003. Our headquarters includes state-of-the-art equipment and is constructed with the ability to expand should our Department continue to grow.  We are proud to have received the Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence.


Other significant items include:

Preference provided to applicants with ACT 120 certification; either from PA or a reciprocal State.

Annual Base Wage – $52,740 (2014)

11.5 hr shift.  Officers are off every other FRI, SAT., SUN.; and, work 70 days less per year than the traditional 8 hr shift

Vacation Time –46 hours after one year of service.

Sick Leave – 138 hours on the initial date of employment and on each January first thereafter.  Accrual of time is pro rated from the date of hire to the next calendar year.

Personal Leave – 46 Hours annually.

Holidays – holidays will be granted according to the federal standard of recognized holidays per U.S.C. 6103; and a birthday for a total of 11 days per year.
